My name is Katherine Joy Guillermo, and I have been teaching for 9 years, teaching the essential components of English to grades 7, 8, and 9. I believe as a teacher, building good relationship with my students is a top priority. Teacher should also establish a positive and inclusive learning environment. Because all students are capable of learning, and it is my job to make sure that I differentiate my instruction to cater the unique needs and varied learning styles. Finally, I believe that learning is a lifelong process. As a teacher, I always make sure that I am updated with current educational trends and strategies. As a literacy educator working more often with students below proficiency levels of reading and writing, I think of teaching in terms of role-playing; sometimes I am a resource, other times a model, and always a motivator. My goal is to get students to a point of competent, independent function at their developmental level by supplying them with information, skills training, and models from which they can apply new concepts. Just last year, our school implemented the BRIDGE program which stands for Bridging Readers Improvement Through Digital Genre of Education and it helped slow readers to keep up the pace with other students.
