I am a South African native English speaker, married to a Taiwanese national. We arrived in Taiwan in December 2020 and have a daughter in middle school, so I am here to stay. I hold a management certificate from the Business School of the University of the Witwatersrand, a TESOL certificate, and additional qualifications from the Services SETA in South Africa, where I was trained in writing assessment documentation and evaluating staff performance. Over the past three years, I have been teaching at Annie’s English School, Milan branch in Shulin. At Annie’s, I taught kindergarten students STEAM subjects, reading, and Kiwipedia. Kiwipedia is an in-house book designed to teach students the English names for objects they already know in Chinese. Additionally, I conducted weekly Show and Tell sessions, where students presented toys and explained their origins and features to practice speaking in English. For elementary students, I taught reading, science, and Kiwipedia. I also filled in for absent teachers, often working long 11-hour days, and covered phonics, blend words, and vocabulary as needed.
