Introduce yourself :
“I close my eyes, and I can see a world that’s waiting up for me”
These lines from the song A Million Dreams from the movie soundtrack of The Greatest Showman woke me up from my dreams to become reality. All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. Living in the 21st century, a dream is a vision for the future that includes ideas about how people should live, work, and learn. It’s a time when people are expected to be adaptable, resilient, and creative and to have a strong sense of critical thinking. When I was young, I always dreamed that all my dreams would come true and kept dreaming until I achieved what I was dreaming of to do what I love and be happy with what I will achieve in the future.
Nĭ hăo! I am Maria Eula Villaflores Gutierrez, a thirty-two-year-old licensed professional teacher here in the Philippines. I am enthusiastically writing to convey my desire to work as a foreign English teacher in Taiwan's prestigious institutions of learning. I am thrilled to contribute my varied expertise, love of learning, and dedication to developing global communication skills to your classrooms as a licensed professional teacher.
I believe that education is the key to opening doors, which led me to pursue a career in education. My journey began when I earned my undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Technology and Livelihood Education in 2017 at Camarines Norte State College. I've been honing my craft for the past 6 years by teaching students communication techniques in addition to technical capabilities, helping them to gain self-confidence and practical competencies. My teaching profession broadened my skill set to include classroom management and language instruction, even if my academic focus was on the TLE major. By combining my technical expertise with soft abilities, I've been able to meet each student's unique needs and create a vibrant, welcoming learning atmosphere. Currently, I already have complete academic requirements for my graduate degree, Master of Arts in Teaching in Technology Education.
I committed my whole existence here in the Philippines, as I started working in the department of education, devoting my passion to both teaching and learning. I am deeply committed to the context of education, and even now, I am currently teaching and sharing my knowledge and expertise not just with my students but also with my colleagues, parents, and stakeholders. There, I share my lessons as I incorporate the English language as my medium of instruction. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that education is a powerful tool for personal growth and societal development. I am to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves and reach their full potential. Being a teacher is not only about having a permanent position but also having the avenue and the platform to inspire, help, and influence the dreamers and learners around you.
Teaching in Taiwan is my long-time dream to turn it into reality. Taiwan made a goal to become a bilingual country by 2030, and as a deeply driven educator, I want to partake in that goal and be part of that realization. It aligns perfectly with my aspirations of fostering meaningful cultural exchange. Having worked in diverse educational settings, I have developed a strong appreciation for different cultural perspectives. I am eager to share my knowledge of the English language and Philippine culture while immersing myself in Taiwan’s rich, dynamic culture. Taiwan's progressive educational system, as well as its cultural emphasis on academic success and innovation, captured my interest. Your dedication to improving students' English proficiency is perfectly aligned with my objective as an educator: to provide students with the tools they need to prosper in a globalized environment.
I know how important it is to make learning interesting and relevant since I have seen firsthand the transformational impact of education. Interactive courses, group projects, and using real-world applications to capture students' interest are the fundamental elements of my teaching methodology. I have also used project-based learning and my TLE background to demonstrate the practical application of language proficiency in both every day and professional contexts.
Aspiring to teach in Taiwan is not only an opportunity for professional growth and achieving my dreams into reality but also a chance to share my teaching experiences by empowering students with language skills that will open doors to developing empathy, compassion, deeper learning, and multiple worldviews to endless possibilities. I am ready to take the risk and embrace the challenges and opportunities of teaching in Taiwan and am committed to upholding the values and standards of the program even the chances of being accepted may be low, but I will always be grateful to myself for turning this dream into reality that will change my life as a dreamer, as an educator, and as an individual. I'm sure that my commitment to helping students succeed and my variety of teaching experiences will enable me to contribute significantly to your organization. It would be a privilege to become a member of your team and help the students reach their greatest potential in terms of their mastery of the English language.
“I close my eyes, and I can see a world that’s waiting up for me”
These lines from the song A Million Dreams say that even if we have a million dreams in life, if you don’t take action and just dream, you will not see a world that’s waiting up for you, but if you desire to create a better world and pursue one's dreams, all the dreams that you are aspiring for will come true. And now I want those dreams to come true, and Taiwan, I can see what’s the world is waiting up for me.
